At some point in our travels, we spoke to some world traveller, who asked about their favorite place to visit in the world. Their answer was “Angkor Wat”. So we knew we had make it there. We took this trip with both grandparents, Grammy and Grampy
Highlights:
#1 - Angkor Wat Temples #2 - Amatao Villa #3 - Pottery making
#1 - Angkor Wat Temples - The temples and ruins themselves are massive and spread-out through many many square miles of jungle. There are 8-10 temples which everyone puts on their list of temples to see, but after that, there are a dozen more temples in the area which are less visited, and which you can spend many days visiting. We spent two full days visiting temples, and took some time to see other things as well. The jungle growth alongside the temples is eerie and spectacular.
#2 - Amatao Villa - This villa complex was slightly out of town, and with our ten guests, we took up the entire place. It was charming and beautiful, providing our meals and lodging. When we left, they gave us gifts, and did an ceremonial dance and released white doves to wish us Godspeed. I would recommend then to anyone.
#3 - Pottery making - In the village of Siem Riep, there is a pottery shop, with outdoor wheels, where you can throw your own pot with a foot-pedal crank wheel. One afternoon, while the other adults went to see more temples, I took the kids to make pots, and they had a grand time.
