Living in the Netherlands, we drove through Belgium many times on our way to France. We also went to Antwerp and Brussels a few times for church activities, as it was just a few hours away. But our tourist activities took us to the wonderful old medieval cities of Ghent and Brugge. I took "visiting from out of town" family there a few times, and Tera and I even spent a weekend away in Brugge for Tera’s birthday one year. The old walled cities take you back to the 1600’s with their architecture and cobblestone roads, and narrow alleyways and canals.
#1 - Sitting for lunch in the Plaza of either city. Any way you look there is a wall of architectural history
#2 - Canal tour through Brugge
#3 - Eating Belgian waffles, smothered in chocolate sauce and strawberries and cream. If you knew how much additional sugar there was in the waffle itself, you might not add all the chocolate.
#4 - Harp concert of Luc Vanalaere in the backstreets of Brugge. This concert was such a delightful find. Luc is an excellent musician, and his free concerts are intimate and entertaining.
