Lots of Trips to Singapore
We visited Singapore many times, passing through on connecting flights, or actually spending time in the city-state. It is a marvel of modern architecture, engineering, cleanliness, walkability. Everything is new, and bigger, better, brighter than next door. The downtown is covered almost wall-to-wall in shopping malls and entertainment plazas. For those who love big cities and downtowns, it is not to be missed
#1 - Singapore Airport
#2 - City Parks and Nature Reserves
#3 - Broadway Entertainment
#4 - Morton’s Steakhouse
#5 - Crowds at Universal Studios
#1 - Singapore Airport - Hands down, this is the nicest airport in the world. The place is one big shopping mall inside, fully carpetted mostly everwhere, with fresh flowers and orchids adorning literally every corner. The have a seriously good butterfly garden, and a garden with pitcher plants, which beats any botanical garden or tropical forest we ever went to. I always loved it when I connected in the Singapore Airport.
#2 - City Parks and Nature Reserves - Singapore is a very green city, with each new city park outdoing the next in beauty and awesomeness.
#3 - Broadway Entertainment - Singapore is the place to go In Southeast Asia for resident Broadway shows like the Lion King or Wicked (both of which we saw there).
#4 - Morton’s Steakhouse - I passed through Singapore quite a few times on business. I was building a living quarters for offshore, and assembly was taking place at Batam Island in Indonesia, which was about a 45 minute ferry ride from Singapore. Every time that I could swing it between the ferry ride and the departing flight, I would try to go to Morton’s. Remember that I was on the company expense account for travel, so the $75 steak and $15 asparagus is not something I personally would buy on my own nickel. But when Shell was paying, I enjoyed every last savory bite.
#5 - Crowds at Universal Studios - Singapore has an entire Island (Sentosa) dedicated to leisure and entertainment. If there is any place in the world which mimics Pinocchio’s infamous Pleasure Island, it is Singapore. The day we went to Universal Studios, it was crowded beyond being fun.
